How many times have you heard that command of Jesus to
spread the Gospel everywhere, take the good news to the ends of the earth?
Probably all of us have heard it many times by now. But how seriously have we
taken it? The idea that any of us, or all of us are called to be a witness to
the good news of Jesus, to be the ones who take that good news wherever we go
so that it really goes to the ends of the earth
.
We are 42 days from heading to The Czech Republic on a 16-day
missions trip. I continue to think about
what it means to be equipped by God.
Equipped to do His will. People
like you and me, made of the most ordinary clay, working for Him. I don’t know that I ever really thought about
the word “equipped” until becoming a Christian.
Big word in the Christian world.
Equipping people…for marriage, for ministry, for parenting, for
spreading the Gospel, for life. Equipped
by God to do His will, and live in the way He wants us to live.
But how do you know you are “equipped.” Is there a certificate, a ribbon, an award,
an alarm that sounds when you are filled up and ready? Is it just the person with the master of
divinity that God is looking for to carry forth His word, His message of hope
and love? For those of us who never had
the chance to go to Bible school or seminary, or maybe the chance was there but
we were looking the other way, how does God use us? Are we what he is looking for? Are we equipped?
The bible says Peter and John were "unschooled,
ordinary men." Nothing special, not
scholars, not heroes, not extraordinary.
They were ordinary…. really? The
Apostles were ordinary. So I guess that
makes it okay that we are ordinary? God uses
ordinary men (and women) to do extraordinary things. That is something to give thought to.
So as the 9 of us ordinary people on the Czech Team, respond
to the work of the Holy Spirit and heed the call, we pray that the people we
come in contact with are impacted by what God is doing in us and through
us. We pray people we meet will wonder
why they felt the breath of God as we silently pray for them as we pass.
As the Czech Republic is 42 days away, we hear the call and
hear His voice “This is the way, walk in it.” So we do.
When We are Called song by
Davis Haas
Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called to be light for the kingdom,
to live in the freedom of the city of God!
We are called to act with justice.
We are called to love tenderly.
We are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God.
Come! Open your heart!
Show your mercy to all those in fear!
We are called to be hope for the hopeless,
so all hatred and blindness will be no more!
Sing! Sing a new song!
Sing of that great day when all will be one!
God will reign and we'll walk with each other as sisters
and brothers united in love!#TheJCzech15
